    (ANI)

Srinagar, May 9 : The Border Security Force has foiled the attempts of Pakistani infiltrators who were reportedly trying to infiltrate into Benglard area of Samba sector by cutting the fence.

A group of 10-15 heavily-armed terrorists tried to 'infiltrate into the Indian side of the border at Samba around 10.45 pm yesterday.

The group was detected and intercepted as they tried to sneak into India, the Deputy Inspector General of BSF, J B Sangwan said.

"There was a support group backing up the infiltrators, who fired heavily on the BSF troops. The fire was returned, and the heavy exchange of gunfire continued for 15 minutes. The group of infiltrators eventually escaped back towards the Pakistani side," he added.

"Now the situation is calm here as we are maintaining a strict vigil," he added.

The BSF said the matter is viewed with great seriousness and will be taken up with the Pakistani authorities.

Indian and Pakistani troops have been maintaining a bilateral ceasefire on the Line of Control and the international border since November, 2003.
