Accident claim ends with Ford paying restitution
    Bangladesh Sun
    Friday 3rd September, 2010

A Mississippi court has heard that the Ford Motor Co will pay $130 million over an accident that occurred in a Ford Explorer.

The family of a man who died while driving the Explorer, had asked for restitution over the accident in which he left the road while driving at over 80 miles an hour without his seatbelt being fastened.

Before the jury could decide on a figure for restitution, Ford lawyers reached the $130 million settlement with the family.

The trial centered on a 2001 accident involving Brian Cole, who at the time had been a prospect for the New York Mets.

A legal representative for Ford said the company would have won the case had the judge not excluded certain pieces of evidence.

Ford has vigorously denied allegations in other cases that the Explorer was especially prone to rollovers.
