Malay Indian creates history, sworn in as Assembly member

Taiping (Malaysia), May 9 : Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leader M. Manoharan created history by becoming Malysia's first state assemblyman to be sworn in while detained under the Internal Security Act.
Manoharan became third Internal Security Act (ISA) detainee to be sworn in as an elected representative.
The 46-year-old DAP leader and Hindraf legal adviser was sworn in before Selangor State Assembly Speaker Teng Chang Khim at the Kamunting detention centre at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
In 1978, ISA detainees Chian Heng Kai and Chan Kok Kit were sworn in as DAP Members of Parliament at the detention centre in Kamunting, the NSt Online reported.
Manoharan has been detained since December 13, 2007, together with P. Uthayakumar, V. Ganabatirau, K. Vasantha Kumar and R. Kengadharan, who are also linked to the Hindraf rally on November 25 last year.
"I will continue to fight all forms of discrimination and marginalisation against any community and raise public interest for justice and equality but I am sad that I have to serve my voters while in detention," he said in a hand-written statement read by his wife S. Pushpaneela after the swearing-in ceremony.
DAP national chairman Karpal Singh was allowed into the centre for the swearing-in.
Both Karpal and Teng urged the government to release Manoharan so that he would be able to serve his constituents.
During the March 8 general election, Manoharan had one of the highest majorities for a Selangor state assemblyman, polling 12,699 votes against Barisan Nasional candidate Ching Su Chen who received 5,515 votes.

When do you need to open eyes widely.We are living in the country of one eyed jack was a king long time.Blind,stupid and brain donors was sitting in the parliment,now we have right people to defend and champion general public rights so how do you expect this bunch of cows to give easy time for the brains so easy way keep them locked up.
Next election all the brains will definately be in the Parliment and all the brain donors,bandits,liars and the bag carriers,tugs MPs,moron’s will be their turn to organised the strategy inside prison.

A SICK JOKE EMANATING FROM A BARISAN IN DISARRAYThe fact that the Barisan lost its 2/3 rds majority and the ever remaining threat of 'kataks' a plenty must at least have made the remaining old fogs in UMNO to realise that locking up Civil Rights speakers; Opposition Party members and blowing up 'Moles' involved in shady dealings bring an unsavoury feeling all round and it goes further to damage the leadership of the country overseas. Now with over 700 Malaysians in foreign lock ups it appears that the Malaysian Passport will be 'shit' when presented at foreign Immigration Counters.
The TV News have made no change. We wonder how much those members of the Public who are made to make comments on issues of non importance to the common man are paid by the Authorities. After all it is the custom and tradition of the Country to 'pay' for everything including votes.
The whole country seems to be existing in a world gone awry somewhat like that in “Alice in Wonderland”. More and more lies and twists are the daily feed that the masses get whilst those in the kampongs and slums go on trying to eke a living and whilst also the hawkers in towns go on feeding the Uniformed local council Enforcers who have no qualms in collecting not only money but goods and foos as well before they go off to their ritual prayers. Will the Government in Waiting to stop all this and bring a new sense of decency to Malaysians as a whole? Let us wait and see.
